 LYME REGIS OPERATIC SOCIETY

presents

GOLDEN REVENGE

Written by Ron Deasy                       Composed by Brian Manners

Our next production is to be "Golden Revenge" written by the late Roy Deasy and music composed by Brian Manners, currently the society's President.  It is set in the time of the Spanish Armada and revolves around the Revenge, a ship of Lyme, which engaged in battle with the Armada and returned to tell the tale.  The story takes several factual local happenings around the time and, with a little poetic licence, weaves a good yarn.

The music is delightful and a joy to sing, with tuneful parts even for the altos to sing.   "Golden Revenge" was written to celebrate the society's 60th anniversary, and was performed then in 1970 and again in the following year when an invitation was received to perform it at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter to great acclaim.  2010 is the society's 90th anniversary and so it was felt appropriate to get the wraps off and perform it again.

The characters have been cast and rehearsals are in full swing under the expert guidance of Nick Lawrence as MD and director.  We meet at the Church Rooms on a Tuesday evening at 7.30pm and the principals also rehearse on Friday evenings.

The production will be performed at The Marine Theatre from 11th to 15th May at 7.30pm ~ tickets £8 will be available from Fortnum Smith & Banwell Tel: 01297 445666 from 19th April 2010.
